Hi, Cammie! You are definitely in a difficult situation. The good news is, in a few years it will get much better as your children get older.

But, until then, you will have to do your best to use things around the house for lessons - keep the toddlers involved in lots of practical life activities, helping you cook and clean.

I would suggest lots of walks and outdoor playtime - the older ones can bring "nature notebooks" and draw something they see while the younger ones play. Trips to the library should be great, as the younger ones can play (most large libraries provide play areas) while the older ones find books they are interested in.

Hang in there, you can do it!

Hi Lori....I need help. You see I am homeschooling and my kids are young. Ok, here is the kicker....I have five of them. My oldest is six and the rest follow at 5, 3 1/2, 2 and 8 months. We start with line time, which they enjoy. Then the baby takes a nap. But the work time is kinda chaotic and often unproductive.

My six year old needs more challenging work...but I lack the funds right now to buy new materials and the time to make them too. She just wants to do the practical life activities I have out for the younger ones. My five year old boy, oh man, it is nearly impossible to keep his attention on anything. I have had success having him count raisins and organize daddy's tools (wrenches large to small).

Then the 3 and 2 year old pretty much need my constant attention or they make a horrid mess of all the pouring and scooping activities. So, sorry about the rant. But, what I need is some ideas. Mostly on how to organize my day. What could I do to challenge my oldest but still give the youngest the attention the deserve. I am overwhelmed and not sure of what direction to go.

Also, I have taken a look at your level one work plans and they look great...but I don't have those materials at this time What are some simple things I could make with stuff around the house.I have seen some of your previous ideas and am working on it. I was just wondering if you might have a few more up your sleeve.

Thank you!

Well, I'm so glad you found me, Janel! Better late than never :)

You don't need formal Montessori training to do Montessori at home (many homeschooling moms don't), although you do need to do a lot of reading and learning before you dive in.

Lori, I absolutely LOVE your website and blog. I just discovered it the other day. I wish I had lots of free time so I could read all the postings and catch up on everything. Everyhting I have read so far is FABULOUS!! I am a homeschooling mom that has been using traditional curriculum and I want to switch to montessori. My children are 51/2 and 3. My 5 1/2 year old is doing 2nd - 3rd grade level work with Abeka curriculum. I really want o switch over to montessori though. Do you think I need to have formal montessori training to do that? Can I just buy the curriculum guides and follow them? what do you suggest?

We had a blast at the aquarium. My son has been there before, but it was my daughter's first time. She absolutely loved the dolphins. I really liked the coral reef exhibit.

We ended up getting a membership because it wasn't that much more than just buying 4 tickets (my husband was able to come with us) - so we'll definitely be going back.

I love the photos of your set-up! How was the Aquarium? I was hoping to take my kids there- but they voted for Homeschool Day at Great America instead! That was very fun, but I just love the Shedd.

I've been reading your blog and it looks awesome! I loved your post about the day that they all worked on the continent map. Sounds like things are going well so far - I'm glad!
