Great post! We have cut meat considerably from our diets, but it is other aspects of our society and having teenagers that makes eating habits difficult in our family.

I can't wait to buy the book!

Thanks for the kudos, ladies! I really appreciate it. I too am trying to cut down on meat for our family. Funny how things change over the years...when I was little, canned food was "fresh"!

Lori-
This is a fantastic post. Our culture makes it so hard to nourish our bodies the way they should be-- I even come from a religion with a health code that states that we should "eat meat sparingly, only in famine and times of winter" and that we should base our diet on unprocessed grains, and fruits and vegetables in season. This has been the directive since the 19th century, and even with such clear language it is so diversely interpreted.
I have been really thinking about this lately-- thinking we should be growing more of our own food, eating less meat or even eliminating it except for special occasions. This post came at a perfect time and has given me a great start in my research.

Wow! Thanks so much for this post. I am constantly questioned about our vegetarian diet, especially regarding our 2 children, ages 5 & 7. We decided to quit eating meat when I was pregnant with my youngest after reading "The Food Revolution" by John Robbins.
I just put this book on hold at the library. I can't wait to read it!
